This is Kevin and I on the bus to the "City Center" basically the downtown area of Dublin. We got lost for about an hour in the Dublin Airport so we only made it to the Jameson factory, not the Guinness. A 2 way bus pass was 10€ (Euros) each.
This is a picture of Kevin ordering our drinks at the Jameson while we waited for our tour to begin.
I had an Irish coffee and Kevin had the Jameson Reserve. The Irish coffee was delicious... That is heavy cream that was shaken and poured over a spoon so it would float on the top of the coffee...mmmmhhm!
Kevin really enjoyed his Jameson Reserve.
This is the mash process before they ferment the barley.
Jameson is triple distilled, and this is a pictures of the 1st still.
After it is triple distilled it is barreled and there is some loss. The longer aged the whiskey the more loss so that is why the older the whiskey the more expensive. The loss is called "The Angel's Share". And there was actually a bar in the Dublin airport called The Angel's Share.
Kevin and I volunteered ourselves to do a whiskey tasting. First we took a sip of the Jameson which is triple distilled. Then drank a sip of water to clear the palette, then took a sip of the double distilled Johnny Walker Black (ew), then no water this time take the rest of the Jameson to see the difference of how it goes down. Then we had a single distilled whiskey...Jack Daniel's...(also ew). I personally would never enjoy any whiskey straight or neat but the Jameson definitely went down smoothly and I could taste the vanilla flavor.
Kevin and I are both now official Whiskey Tasters!
As soon as the tour was done we had to get going to get back to the bus and make our way back to the airport. The bus took about an hour to get back. Lots of stops in the city. They drive like maniacs and on the wrong side of the road (haha) so I was really jumpy. I just couldn't look!
I have some pictures of Dublin and they are all through the bus window, so they aren't great, but it's the best I could do. I loved that there were flowers hanging all along the shops and pubs. It was very pretty, but like any city, crowded and a little dirty. If I were ever to stay in Ireland I would prefer to stay in the country rather than in the city.
Behind the little patch of grass was a kids park with jungle gyms and things.
This little cafe was so cute and if we weren't rushing back to the bus I would have loved to stop in.
A picture from our bus stop while we waited.
I guess this is a river? I don't know what they call it but whatever it is it was running through the middle of the city.
These next few pictures are just of pubs and things I thought were fun to take pictures of while we were on the bus
This little old man was walking down the street and he is the epitome of an Irish grandfather to me. So, I had to get a picture
And, this guy just made Kevin and I giggle so we got a quick picture
We have now arrived in Scotland at our friend Laura's house and I will post pictures later this evening. It is 7:45pm here right now. Still super sunny and beautiful. Pictures to come :)
